Mamma Maria

"Regional farmhouse style typical of the Italian countryside. ... The most striking feature of Mamma Maria is its residential character. Diners have the option of proceeding down a narrow hall to our street-level dining rooms, or else up a tiny staircase to a warren of second-floor rooms. Ranging in size from a one-table private enclave to a twelve-table dining room accommodating up to fifty diners, Mamma Maria is really five distinct dining areas - any of which can be taken privately and four of which offer city views."

Pretty Good, NOT great
By

Pretty good, not great food, atmosphere fine but not particularly romantic as other sites have described it. Service was fine but sure enough, slow, but not painfully so. Was there on a Saturday night. Still looking for a North End Italian "Gem".

Quaint Country Italian Charm & Great Food.
By Mike H.

One of the best in the North End. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time as the staff and kitchen are not in a hurry which adds to the calming atmosphere. On Friday and Saturday nights you might want to make a reservation but sometimes they can get you in anyway. I try to go whenever in Boston and the meal choice is Italian.
