I enjoyed this book very much. I read about people I hadn't seen in years. I was a few years younger than Mike so I don't remember a lot of the incidents he was referring to. I found it funny that people from O.C. thought we were the dirtballs (from the D Street projects). Because all along, we thought THEY were the dirtballs! How come people from "D" were getting jumped in Old Colony and getting their sneakers and leather jackets stolen? I guess we weren't that dirty! I hope Mike comes out with a sequel to his book that focuses on the tragedies that have occured more recently. I think a lot of the people I grew up with either O.D'd or killed themselves and that's VERY disturbing to me. There are so many family's who have suffered great loss there, it didn't matter if you were from the Point, O.C., D Street or F & 4th. It'd be great to see an author from D Street who can tell their story from the "lower end". Southie will always hold a special place in my heart and I can't get back their enough to visit! Anyways, buy the book; you won't regret it. I've loaned my book to several friends (who aren't from Southie) and they also found it intersting too.

I too am survivor of the projects born and raised....i PERSONALLY EXPIRENECED the documentation that Mike wrote and some more. However i had it hard like most of us there and i will never forget where i came from...Linsky, Flahrety, D St. ...all over, You can take the boy out of Southie but you can not take Southie out of the boy...after all it is my home town.

THIS BOOK IS FILLED WITH WILD ACCOUNTS OF SOUTHIE AND SOUTH BOSTON PEOPLE. JUST BECAUSE HE SEEN IT THAT WAY DOES NOT GIVE HIM THE RIGHT TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE BELIEVE HIS FALSITIES. I LIVED IN OLD COLONY AS WELL AS D STREET AND NEVER DID I SEE THE THINGS THIS MAN SPEAKS OF THERE ARE A FEW THINGS THAT HE IS NOT FALSIFING CONCERNING THE CODE OF SILENCE AND A FEW OTHER SMALL THINGS. BUT HE IS BLAMING EVERYONE ELSE FOR HIS FAMILIES MISERY EXCEPT THEMSELVES. HIS MOTHER WAS NOT THE WONDERFUL PERSON & SINGER HE CLAIMS, PEOPLE USED TO RUN WHEN THEY SAW HER COMING. PLUS MY CHILDREN GREW UP WITH A DAD SO DID MANY OF MY NEIGHBORS, THE ONLY MOTHERS WITH FOWL LANGUAGE AS HE SPEAKS OF WAS HIS MOTHER AND A FEW OTHER TRASHY PEOPLE.
I THOUGHT IT WAS AGAINST THE LAW TO SLANDER PEOPLE
I JUST FIND IT AMAZING THAT HE GETS AWAY WITH THE
LIES AND FICTION HIS BROTHER KILLED MY GIRLFRIENDS SON
FOR NO REASON OTHER THAN HE WANTED TO SEE HOW IT FELT TO KILL. SHAME ON US FOR BUYING HIS SLANDER. IT IS TRUE FICTION. THE BOOK MADE ME EXTREMELY ANGRY.
