Who put together the Cingular ad on page A7 of today's Globe? The headline reads More bars in more places. Boston, for example. but the baseball park is most definitely NOT Fenway. Anyone know where it actually is?

Besides, does Boston really need more bars? :-)

Ron, can you post the photo?
By eeka - Jul 21, 2005, 9:21 AM Post #4 of 25 [In reply to]
YES! YES! There really are only about 5 with any character.

It's a picture of a nondicript ball park. I noticed it in Sunday's paper also.

Yeah, but there are only 29 other major league parks, so it's got to be one of them. I don't think baseball is played in any non-MLB park as big as the one shown in that photo. (I also wonder who they're trying to fool. Anyone who cares even a little bit about baseball would take one glance at that photo and say, "that's not Boston.")

So, go to digitalballparks.com and see if you can find a photo of it. If you can give descriptors like roof, no roof, natural turf, artificial turf, what extent of seats in outfield, etc. I can help you narrow it down...

Hmmmm, anyone with a digital camera can take the pic and post it.... I am curious and don't have access to the Globe ads. Many parks do have character eeka. I found Montreal and Toronto's stadiums to be much too big and antiseptic. I attended gaems at both places and didn't enjoy the experience Yes, perhaps Ron would be kind enough to describe the picture! Meanwhile, I'll see if I can get a visual of all parks.

Ken, I mean the BARS don't have character. We need more GOOD bars here.

eeka, Krackels have more character than Goodbars. Those little crispy rice thingies kick the crap of those lame little peanut thingies. ------------------------- Life is....a Simpsons episode

I think Aero bars have great character, as do Flake bars. I do love me some British chocolate. *~*~*~* Luceo non uro

I viewed all the current parks on digitalparks.com and did not see this park. This is an open roof park. The wall along the field is blue and it has natural turf. The bullpen(s) is/are in the left field corner. The left field fool pole is at 335 feet and left center is 380. There is a large scoreboard in left center. It is green and digital. The strange thing is the scoreboard says visitors and home not the team names.

And it has two decks of seating.

Actually there are three decks.

Might be computer generated?
By PaulMc - Jul 22, 2005, 9:41 AM Post #20 of 25 [In reply to]
That's was my thought. Digitalballparks.com does not show every major league park so I was not able to rule out some.

Sure, it could be Adobe Photoshop Stadium, but why would they go to that trouble? I wish I could phone up the person who put together this ad and find out what he was thinking (assuming he was thinking at all).
By eeka - Jul 22, 2005, 9:58 AM Post #22 of 25 [In reply to]
It might have been a she. Because it would be fun to generate a ballpark! And then the ad could be used in any city and wouldn't be the WRONG ballpark; just wouldn't be the right one.
And they wouldn't have to pay Royalties to the owners and MLB for using the image. Seems like a stupid ad campaign if they aren't going to use the actual stadium. Dorks.
The field in the Cingular add is Turner Field in Atlanta... which is the home of the Braves... who used to play in Boston... so they almost got it right... they were just off by 48 years.... (Cingular is based in Atlanta, so I think they were just being lazy.)

Wow, what a stupid idea for an ad campaign. Thanks for answering our question!
