Yeah, there were typed-up signs for YEARS on a filing cabinet where I used to work: DRAW 1 office supplies DRAW 2 blank forms etc.

Shouldn't that be "dressah"?? I was 15 yrs old before I realized how many words had "er" on the end... and how many others didn't. Sigs are overrated.

Yeah, a former cow orker's daughter was "Peela" and I kept wondering what kind of weirdass whitetrash name that was, until I saw her wearing a bracelet that said "Pilar."

I was just out in Washington last week and I asked some one for a tonic. They looked at me like I had three heads. I never knew the saying drawer was a strange thing.

Freaky timing. Just got this in an email from a co-working this morning, informing us that our new printer can print 11x17, and that "the paper is in the draw directly below the printer." Freedom of speech is wonderful - right up there with the freedom not to listen.

I travel for work and have to give training classes. How ironic is that. Some times people will just sit there not have a clue. All the while I think I am toning it down. Apparently not. The number fowah is always a classic.

You should scribble all over the 11x17 paper with a crayon and then when someone demands to know wtf, you can say "hey, you said draw..."
At least with the Boston pronunciation for "drawer" one can represent it as "draw" (or maybe "drah"), but there's really no way to represent the vowel sound used when folks probouce "room" with a Boston accent, as "rum" doesn't quite do it.

The other phrase I never realized was "so don't I". I always say that.

I expect I'll pick up Bostonisms once I'm there. I already say "packy" and "wicked". I worked with a woman from Alabama once, and I still say "might could" occasionally. *~*~*~* Luceo non uro

I can see you picking up the certain phrases. I was down south for about 6 months a few years back and I found myself saying y'all occasionally. That was an experience. When ever I had to by a pack a of cigs I was like "gimme a pack of Mahbros". Poor girl was like "huh". One person ask me if I was Australian. Go figure that one.

This is pretty cool. I ran across it a while ago. Number 79 is a classic Boston accent. http://classweb.gmu.edu/accent/

I find myself saying "y'all" too...because one of my professors, who is actually from upstate New York, did one of her degrees in Georgia, and she had a Southern accent when she came here. It doesn't even take direct exposure to a native dialect speaker for me, apparently. I'm impressionable. *~*~*~* Luceo non uro
