Anyone know what happened to Star 93.7? It is now "Mike FM" and it is weak. Not hot.

WQSX-FM (93.7, aka ``Star 93'') pulled the plug on its dance/ rhythm hits format yesterday... So the entire Star-93.7 on-air staff was fired, and McKenna wasn't sure when or even if announcers would ever get behind the mike for Mike. The new Web site (93.7mikefm.com) pledges that ``If you love it, Mike is gonna play it.

Didn't this used to be WCGY, back when Curt Gowdy (get it?) owned it?

which was up in Lowell, or Lawrence, or Haverhill -- somewhere around there.

Star 93.7, of course, was the format change that killed my beloved Eagle 93.7 so I shed no tears for the loss of "The Rhythm of Boston." But Mike just sounds stupid.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT CORPORATE AMERICA HAS TAKEN OVER THE ONLY RADIO STATION I LISTENED TO IN THE A.M. KAREN BLAKE, RALPHIE, FREDDIE AND FRANKIE WERE THE ONES THAT GOT MY BUTT OUT OF BED IN THE A.M. AND MADE MY MORNING COMMUTE GO BY SO FAST. MIKE FM SUCKS!!! THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER STATIONS PLAYING THAT OTHER CRAP - YOU TOOK AWAY THE BEST RADIO PERSONALITIES AND THE GREATEST MUSIC. LET'S FACE IT - YOU TOOK ALL THE FUN AWAY! F- OFF ENTERCOM!!!!!

And corporate America gave you the completely programmed station that they took away.
EVERYTHING'S become corporate now.....radio, TV, movies--you name it. No wonder movies, radio and TV have declined so much. I listen to the oldies on the radio, don't watch TV, and see older classic films whenever I can.

Not everything -- there's still WMBR, WERS, WMFO, WUMB, WHRB, and the like.
Eh? Nothing of interest here. Move along

Yeah, I'm sure it's not much better in Canada either.

Yeaaaaaaah, baybee. I just discovered the Coffeehouse on WERS last week, when I accidentally nudged my radio dial from WGBH. Freedom of speech is wonderful - right up there with the freedom not to listen.
WERS is actually, IMO, the best station in Boston. Coffee house, the kaleidoscope (world music) in the afternoon, the hip-hop show (can't remember the name right now), revolutions late-night (electronica), and "Women in Music" (Sat AMs - in place of coffee house) are all great. The college-kid DJs can sometimes get annoying, esp. during pledge time (it's non-commercial - Emerson college), but it's otherwise great.......

WZBC (90.3) is pretty good too...
I'll have to check that out.... My scales are actually tipping to Satellite - the boys across the hall from me have XM and it is very, very cool.....

I too enjoy WERS when I can. I forgive it a bit of useless DJ chatter, cause it's college radio and all (the "You Just Heard And Before That You Heard And Before That" virus is in full effect) but also because the programming is wonderfully diverse.
Nothing of interest here. Move along

Backannouncing! Yes, but they don't have ads except for PSAs. Commercial radio has 20 minutes of yapping per hour.

Didn't some KKK or Nazi types firebomb that station a few decades ago? I remember watching a long segment about it on a PBS show called The Great American Dream Machine.
