So why not go to the place it is and find out? *~*~*~* Luceo non uro

OK, see, my whole POINT was that I've been to the place that's marked on the map, and there isn't anything terribly interesting there. And I don't know what a Montegrade is, so I don't even know what I'm looking for.

It appears to be a town, hon. http://www.cityreview.us/massachusetts/newstead_montegrade/ http://www.combs-families.org/combs/records/ma/suffolk.htm "Did you mean to search for: "newstead montegrande"?" No, dear Google, I didn't. Sheesh. *~*~*~* Luceo non uro

Uh, but it's not a town, because it's a dot in Roxbury.

Oh it's a dot in Roxbury? I thought it was a dot in Dot. Either way, must be a long-forgotten mini-neighborhood in Boston. Kinda like Riverside in Cambridge. ------------------------- Life is....a Simpsons episode

Oh, hey, I notice that city site invites you to upload your photos of Newstead Montgrade. eeka, I think it's time you get over there and take soem photos to upload!

This MapQuest map shows it right in the middle of Franklin Park, on Playstead Road. I got it by searching for the city of Newstead Montegrade. I'm thinking it's really just a hill that Olmsted named, but it's pretty funny there's a link to flights to the place.

An old map-maker's trick was to put nonexistent landmarks on their maps to prevent copyright infringement. Could it be one of those?
So, what the Google search tells me, or, rather, what I infer from the Google search results, or, in other words, what the Google search results imply..... uuh. where was I? Oh, yeah. The search results, taken as a whole, are consistent with the entry "Newstead Montegrade" having got into one GIS database and then somehow replicated. It never appears anywhere (until we started jabbering about it) other than in webpages that are generated automatically from GIS database entries. Nothing of interest here. Move along

Yahoo Maps also proclaims the existence of Newstead Montegrade, but Google Maps says, not so fast, we're not falling for THAT old chestnut...
Do a search on the towns "Beatosu" or "Goblu" Nothing of interest here. Move along

You go, Goblu! It gives me stupid joy to see that we are now number 1 on a Google search on Newstead Montegrade. eeka's plan for world domination is working!
The mind boggles at the possibilities. Quick, register some domain names so that when the Newstead Montegrade chamber of commerce wants to get a web site they'll need to come begging to you. Nothing of interest here. Move along

Newstead Montegrade is in a USGS geographic names database, which is presumably how it got into Mapquest and Yahoo and all these other places. I posted some research about it over in Universal Hub.

I have half a mind to do that (yes, my college friend from France who always complained about "demi-wits" must've been thinking about me).

By the way, I'm all for taking a field trip to this place, if someone has a GPS (I don't).

Actually, its a dot in JP, as Franklin Park is technically in JP (Not to mention that the dot is close to the Sigourney St entrance to the White Schoolboy Stadium).

I always wondered why the white schoolboys got a stadium all to themselves.

There must be somebody else out there plotting world domination... I see that the www. newsteadmontegradecarnival.com domain was apparently not available. Sigs are overrated.
