Every time I mapquest ANYTHING, I get a "landmark" called "Newstead Montegrade." When I zoom in, I see that the dot is in Franklin Park. For whatever reason, if I mapquest a route from, say, Concord to Quincy, I'll get a map with a few town names and this Newstead Montegrade thing. I know the Franklin Park area fairly well, and I don't know WTF this thing is. I certainly know there's nothing there that's a major landmark, other than, well, Franklin Park. Mapquest seems to think it's like a city or major neighborhood or something apparently. I googled it and got nothing but a bunch of computer-generated sites of stuff like "lodging in Newstead Montegrade" which I'm guessing were pulled from mapquest. Anyone know the significance of this?

Hey, I found a PDF file that includes it! http://www.aaai.org/Symposia/Fall/1995/fssregistration-95.pdf OK, I was all excited that this meant someone actually knew what it refers to, but then I looked and it was just a computer-generated map. Still. Weird.

The next logical folks to ask, if the USGS and Mr. Blum aren't helpful, might be at the Frederick Law Olmsted Historic Site in Brookline.

Or my heroes - the Reference Desk at the BPL. I'm filing my request right now ...

I don't know if we can trust them though. I've heard they're pretty harsh to Don Saklad over there when he approaches them with requests.

Maybe Natalie Milton lives in Newstead Montegrade.

Ooh, great crossreferencing! Now the Newstead Montegrade thread has a reference to Natalie Milton and the Natalie Milton thread has a reference to Newstead Montegrade. Brilliant. And OMG. They have the same initials. This reeks of conspiracy. All this Newstead Montegrade Stuff and Natalie Milton Stuff must be--WAITAMINUTE...NMS? Where have we seen those initials before? Was it...NEW MEDIA STRATEGIES? Which sucks? Could it be? I wonder if Natalie Milton sucks too. And if Newstead Montegrade sucks. Google must hate us.

The joke over there was so good I knew it needed to close the circle over here. Next stop, Ouroboros Circle...

Agent Scully has one of those tatooed on her back. And eeka will love that I made an Agent Scully reference in any thread.

Could Ageny Scully investigate and find out WTF Newstead Montegrade is?

It could be the reason why the guy's seeking her so desperately. No--this is just a joke. I don't want Adam to stick a padlock on the thread.

HEE! Yeah. We don't want a padlock on it.

Obligatory Gaffin reference here: On one "X Files" episode, there was a dead coroner named Arthur Gaffin. Turns out the guy who wrote that episode was friends with my cousin (well, technically, my father's cousin) Arthur and so wrote him into the script.

Whoa! Your father's cousin is my hero now.

Should we start a dead father's cousins page? Wait, is he dead? Or does he just have a dead guy named after him?

Yeah, he's quite alive - it was his alter ego who was dead. http://www.ibdb.com/person.asp?ID=70002

Here's a synopsis of the dead-Gaffin script - the role of Arthur Gaffin was played by the immortal Gibby Brand. Except I was wrong - he just plays a coroner, not a dead one: Arthur Gaffin: "Assistant Director Skinner?" Skinner: "Yes." Arthur Gaffin: "Arthur Gaffin, County Coroner." Skinner: "I asked you to keep this thing low key." Arthur Gaffin: "Word spreads. Exhumation's big news any day of the week and you had the body moved to another county to a specific pathologist. Well, that takes people and paperwork."

Hey, I don't see what's wrong with the short runway at the Newstead Montegrade airport!
