From BU:

We want to give you some additional information about a story that ran in today's Boston Globe. As the Globe reported, three Boston University Medical Center research laboratory employees were infected last year while working with tularemia bacteria (F. tularensis). All three employees have fully recovered. The laboratory has been decontaminated. BUMC officials notified the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) and the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) immediately upon learning of the workers' exposure. Those agencies and BUMC agreed that the incident did not represent a risk to the community or the public because tularemia is not transmitted from person to person and a public statement about the incident was not necessary.

The BPHC and MDPH began an investigation into the tularemia cases in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control. BUMC cooperated fully with this investigation and conducted its own review of the incident led by the chairman of the medical center's Institutional Biosafety Committee. At the time of the workers exposure, it was believed that the strain of tularemia being studied in the laboratory was a vaccine strain, which does not cause illness. This investigation has found that the tularemia bacteria being studied by the infected workers included a virulent strain of tularemia, in addition to the vaccine strain. The investigations are still seeking to determine when and how this mixed tularemia strain came into the laboratory. At this stage of the investigations, it is believed that, while BUMC requested a vaccine strain of tularemia, a mixed strain was received.

Tularemia, also known as "rabbit fever," is a bacterial disease, which can affect both animals and humans. Exposure commonly comes from handling of infected animals or the bite of infected ticks or deer flies. Researchers in the laboratory where the incident occurred are working to develop a vaccine against the disease using a vaccine strain of tularemia.

BUMC will be enhancing laboratory training and procedures. Dr. Thomas Moore, Acting Provost, is leading this effort which will include enhance safety training for all researchers and unannounced safety inspections of all laboratories on our campus.

the bus driver was **possibly** Iraqi, and I saw another guy walking in Copley Sq...it's possible he'd just gotten off the bus.

With Chinese New Year in less than 2 weeks away, there are bound to be whole groups of Chinese people walking together in Boston...

it is any coincidence that today in inauguration day?

Be alert - the country needs more lerts.

But, hey, my birthday's coming up and now I know what I want:

NUKALERT

Carried everywhere your keys go, with NukAlert's 24/7 constant monitoring, you'll always be promptly alerted to the unseen, but acutely dangerous, levels of radiation if/when present.

A benefit of the NukAlert™, not to be overlooked, is that it will also confirm when and where those higher levels of radiation are not present, too.

With the anticipated general public angst, perhaps even panic, accompanying any future developing nuclear emergency, this will be very reassuring to know with confidence when, for your locale, that your family is out of the worst danger, too.

Also check out: WHAT TO DO IF A NUCLEAR DISASTER IS IMMINENT!

BE ASSURED, YOU CANNOT STORE AND HAVE TOO MUCH WATER! Do not hesitate, fill up every possible container, RIGHT NOW!

I saw some silly WANTED posters, with pictures of four Chinese people, taped up on the Green Line level of Park Street Station.

geez louise..chill
you get consistantly hysterical.

"bait then act as though the other person's got the problem"
yeah, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiight
is that why you keep responding & responding & responding ad nauseum to me? ie: you've responded to me 4 times today, including posts that have been up for sometime.

you get your crow feathers ruffled and then post that I am a b***ch and stupid stuff like that.

know what?

whatev'

I think you're stupid and reactive, so nothing you pose to me or say to me bothers me in the slightest...you have an inferiority complex or something, 'member when you wrote "there she goes thinking she's better than me again". You're confusing superiority with disinterest. Feel free to not respond to me...it's not something you NEED do do, although you do seem compelled to...

Reactive? no i just defend myself when insulted. you don't like it then keep shut w/ your duh shit in the first place.

I don't think Denise is stupid or reactive.

Sonia is just low rent that's all, she thinks Howard Stern is enlightening, now that's stupid.

exactly what I said, huh?

"Sonia is just low rent that's all"
considering the source, I'm so not offended.

it is stupid and reactive to get bent when someone says "duh" when the obvious is pointed out.

Listen, my point is, if sonia thinks she can go around pushing someone's buttons w/ her equally childish crap, she can't also think that no one is going to respond to it. That's not how it works anywhere on this planet.

If she gets all bent out of shape because I responded to her oh my God, 4 times yesterday then that's her hang up. We don't agree on many things. I feel she tries to oust my opinions as not up to date, and I personally don't care. But I have no problem restating my opinion. And I will always do so.

I never said that she was stupid because she holds vastly diff. opinions than I do on many topics. I also never said she was stupid for running around the forum insulting ppl with her passive-aggressive button pushing.
She can follow her own advice if she feels I should freely not respond to her.

"Duh" was uncalled for. I thought her post was funny and that was all.
She wants to call people stupid and reactive, well it's gonna come w/ the territory when she wants to be b****y. I don't have to fall to my knees because I don't agree w/ her. Her posts, in response to mine, are NOT the divine word. I know someone who uses her tactics in conversation as well, and this person is very exasperating and many people who know this woman are completely annoyed by her when she crys "NO FAIR" when someone else calls her on her attitude.

I move that we start two separate threads; one for Sonia and Denise and one for me, eeka, Sparky, and jhr, so that we all don't keep hijacking other people's perfectly good threads.

Who's with me?
