The other day one of our nurses randomly said "I hate pickles." Then she goes on to say that her daughter loves them and she doesn't understand how she could have possibly popped out a kid who likes pickles. Without thinking, I said "pickles have nothing to do with reproduction." She then said "you must not be doing it right." Then she told everyone that I said pickles have nothing to do with reproduction, and they're now reminding me of this fact frequently.

Sure, like Tommy and Angelica Pickles. Oh, God, I watch too much Nickleodeon...

You mean Pickleodeon?
Elvis is still touring he's playing in Northern Ireland in the next few months, we're not that far behind. It's origional video recording of him live projected on to a big screen and the band, or what's left of them, playing along to him

Well, there was that story in the Globe last week about how Menino loves to go grocery shopping (including at the same Roche Bros. that was the scene of that dumb cellphone battle discussed elsewhere here) but, no, I was referring to a couple of characters on "Rug Rats," including "fearless, hairless" Tommy Pickles, which shows on Nickelodeon.

I might be going out on a limb here, but I think Fred was trying to be funny ...
By eeka - May 1, 2003, 8:23 AM Post #35 of 104 [In reply to]
I think he was beating a very dead horse. The only way to make it deader would have been to add something about Jawn into the mix. Besides, I wanted to use the LEARN TO FRICKIN' READ tag. Of course, then I found out that the tag doesn't work here, and neither does the BIG tag! WAAAAHHH!

thinks Jawn is one of the common folks,he'll straighten her out one of these days .he will prove he is a true Blue Blood.I understand Mayor Tommy is into pickles.Thanks[eeka}. Trust in God and sin not.Don't blame me I'm like Sparky I voted for Sarah to.

Actually I have no opinion about him, other than that I've heard entirely too much Jawning around this forum. You're the one who makes a BFD about him. He himself doesn't impress me.

He seems to think he can restore the Democrats to the White House.Maybe he'll become an Elvis impersonator when he loses. Trust in God and sin not.Don't blame me I'm like Sparky I voted for Sarah to.

Yeah, and I was out of film by then and everyone else was too chicken to shoot Elvis!

HEY! I asked you to get Elvis! He was walking toward the security guard who was giving Adam a hard time and I didn't want to risk anything. If we could of managed to get him outside it would've been great! But who knows, he may have torn off that Elvis look and really been _____ _____ ! Then we'd all been in trouble!

OK, to set the scene: We were all about to leave South Station, having taken about as many pictures as we could of some Amtrak train (the Lake Shore Limited? It was a diesel train, at any rate), when I stopped to take one last photo of the ceiling clock. I snap the photo and all of a sudden: "NO!" This security guard started, not quite yelling, but not quite softly, either, telling us we couldn't take pictures inside the station. We flashed our T photo permits and he said no, that was no good. Ken asked if South Station was MBTA property and he allowed as it was, but he didn't care that our passes gave us permission to shoot anywhere on MBTA property (well, that was legal for the general public to be on), because he didn't work for the MBTA, he worked for a security agency and the agency hadn't given us permission, so while he understood what we were saying and we were right about the MBTA pass, we couldn't take pictures. We went around on this point a couple of times when an actual MBTA cop walked by. We flagged him down, he looked at our passes and said, yes, we could take pictures and thanked us for letting him know we were there. And so, just to make a point, we started back toward the middle of the station; after that, how could we NOT take more photos now? A Point had to be Made, after all. And as we wheeled around, there he was: Elvis. Well, pint-sized Elvis. I'm not sure he was 5 feet tall. And he was wearing a toupee. So he was probably bald Elvis, to boot. He was wearing regular street clothes, so I don't think he was performing, which leads one to wonder: Why would somebody WANT to walk around the street looking like that? Was there a sale at Bob's Discount House of Toupees? Still, eeka did head over toward him (at least, I thought that's what she was doing), but she must've scared him away because before any of us could get our cameras, um, un-cocked, he scuttled away. So instead we took a couple of pictures of eeka sticking her finger in places it probably shouldn't be (in some statue made of train couplers, that is), and then we left. All this was in contrast to what happened at the Mattapan train yard (if you can call four or five old trolleys, a devil snowplow and a wire car a yard). We sauntered into the yard and were examining all the trolleys when a T mechanic walked up. Uh, oh, busted! Instead, he turned out to be a really nice guy who told us all about how to drive 70-year-old trolleys (they have, I think, three kinds of brakes, he told us how to apply them all at once and how to drive the car backwards), how, if one lightbulb in a car burns out, the rest can suddenly explode (now *that* would be interesting to see), how, when an old Green Line trolley is refurbished for duty on the Mattapan line, somebody has to drive it around and around the train yard for 500 miles to break it in and and that while some people (like, um, railgeeks, who come from around the world) really love the cars, they require a ton of work and are a source of annoyance among actual riders, because they don't have air conditioning. Then he turned one of the cars on so eeka could ring the bell (by pressing a button marked "gong") and blow the airhorn.

Good explanation Adam. You left out the part of wanting to ride the Blue Line around the Bowdin loop and the car accident we witnessed at Alewife.

Oh, sure, and Bob's Fudge Bunnies in Revere (at least I have a picture of one shivering Fudge Bunny that I need to post).
By Kingdafy - May 5, 2003, 1:13 PM Post #47 of 104 [In reply to]
I got a picture of the Fudge Bunnies. I would have posed with them if they weren't so busy. One of the best pictures I got was of the mechanic demonstrating how to drive the train backwards. I found out why my 16mb card filled up so quickly... I didn't realize that I had two movies stored on it. I could have taken more pictures if I had just checked that first... 300 pictures just wasn't enough.

Did you get to ride around the Bowdoin loop? I've always wanted to do that -- wonder if I could lay low enough to not be noticed when the doors close.

Don't be on the first car like we were. The driver can see you.

I have done it. I was in a group of two though, not four, and we hid under the seats.
